Trunks from the 1970s
I photographed trees because of light. I photographed them because they were trees, but for me, light is photography itself. Light is the object, and light is the tree.
Because of the light, I would return to the same trunk again and again. Sometimes, I would wait for hours, simply enduring, waiting for the light to arrive. Light was also a form of life, like water. Just as a dying tree can come back to life when water is poured over it, a tree seemed to come alive when touched by light.
What had been unseen became visible. What had not existed appeared.
